The Precision-BTC Network shows up for the OECI Academy’s 'How to Develop & Write a Successful Grant Application' residential course
For three days in Warsaw, Poland, a group of more than thirty junior oncologists and scientists received important insight into the key skill of “grantsmanship” from top professionals in the field of oncology, among whom the Precision-BTC Network was well represented!
This residential course, a first within the Organization of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) Academy framework, was designed with sights set on providing these young professionals “with the practical tools and strategic insights” key to the development of a successful grant application. This lofty goal was well and truly achieved through a combination of expert led sessions, discussion and group work.
The course’s themes touched on the prime consideration of grantsmanship: the particulars preparing research proposals, their implementation, and future exploitation and impact. Each session was well provisioned with expert lectures and ample time for Q&A and discussion. Of the five sessions in total, three were deftly moderated by Precision-BTC Network Working Group 3 member Per Sandström.
Crowning these five practical sessions were two keynote lectures: Personalized oncology: how gender and diversity may shape the future of cancer research by Winette van der Graaf (Netherlands Cancer Institute), and Beyond borders: global partnerships driving breakthroughs in cancer research, presented by Action Chair Rocío IR Macías. This latter lecture brought to the fore the importance of international collaboration, and collaborative networks like the Precision-BTC Network, in pushing the frontiers of oncological investigation.
Organizer, presenter, and course guide, the driving force behind this enriching initiative was the Precision-BTC Networks own Chiara Gabbi—Management Committee member, Career Development Coordinator and Gender Equality Coordinator. Thanks to her effort, the generous contribution of the numerous expert presenters and moderators, and the passion of the course attendees, this first OECI Academy Residential Course was an undeniable success!
