Short term scientific missions (STSMs) allow scientists to conduct brief research and study visits to a research institution or laboratory in another COST Country. These visits help to strengthen the existing networks and foster collaboration, learn new techniques or use equipment, data and/or methods not available in their own institution, and contribute to the scientific objectives of the Action.

STSM grantees who receive funding for implementing a project benefit from working with an international team, and from the opportunity to gain knowledge or access to equipment or techniques not available in the home institution. STSM hosts who receive an international partner in their institution have the great opportunity to develop long-lasting collaborations.

The application procedure is legally bound to the Rules for COST Actions. Eligible STSM applicants must submit their STSM applications online by logging into e-COST (https://e-services.cost.eu), going to "Grant Applications" and clicking on "Apply for a grant".
